Finding the Will
Overcoming adversity is not a skill everyone possesses. Adversity didn’t effect my life until one day I broke my arm in a simple football game. I was so devastated by the injury, but when I needed to find the will to overcome this setback, I somehow found the power inside me.
It was a cool fall night at the Fay school. It was Fay’s homecoming football game and we were about to kick off. The first drive couldn’t have gone better, we scored on the first play with a jet sweep that Matt Carolyn took with speed. Our defense set the tone from the beginning, we bullied their offensive line, hit their running backs hard and covered the wide receivers. We just beat our rivals in a dominant fashion. It was a great feeling but something felt off, something wasn’t right.
A week had gone by and I couldn’t bear the pain anymore. I went to the doctors and found out that I had a broken arm. I was devastated; I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t know what to do. I lost one of the biggest parts of my life, playing sports. The next couple of months felt strange and uncomfortable. However, as time went one I felt strength in my arm and week by week I came closer to a full recovery. In the beginning of my recovery process I felt lost and didn’t know what to do without sports and activity. However, as time went on I found a routine and ways to stay busy when I couldn’t do what I loved.
There have been and will be lots of challenges in my life and I just need to find ways around them. Life comes with endless challenges that may knock you down. N
Never let those challenges knock you out. Just keep fighting.
