A Sense of Community

~Ethan Ali, Class of 2023

Memories that will last a lifetime

The Greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members

~Coretta Scott King

Miracle league is an all volunteer, non-profit organization that allows disabled children to play baseball as a part of a team. I play the role of the “buddy,” a companion who works one on one with a player. Together, my player and I run the field, take at bats and play three full innings of baseball. Volunteering for the Miracle League might be the most fulfilling activity that I have ever been involved in.

Why Do We?

~Rohan Rege, Class of 2023

Why do we run from loved ones?
Why do we isolate ourselves
Why do we hate each other?
Why do we want to quit or give up?
Why do we not care?
Why do we want to?
Why do we not listen?
Why why why?

I don’t know,
No one does.
We’re human,
We aren’t perfect,
We shouldn’t be
And we aren’t made to be.
We are ourselves
that’s what makes us do these things
But why don't we try to not.

No Place Like Home

~Lachlan McCaghren, Class of 2023

Change is necessary.
In the future
Life fades away,
The world, enveloped,
Trapped in a charred body,
Melting into the abyss.

If,
You could go back,
Persuade the people
That oil is not the way.
Create the new,
change their ways,
Ask for help,
Because
The Earth is what connects us all.

Anger

~Ethan Gao, Class of 2023

No emotion can be more easily accessible than anger
Anger is a feeling that quells all others
Anger compels one to speak his soul out,
Yet it has shows no result
A fool’s mouth is his destruction

It tastes like a throat of lead gaining weight,
Restricting your every movement
A soft word turns away wrath

It smells like a cold sweat,
Created from the feeling of restlessness
Calmness will lay great offenses to rest

It looks like a huge crowd,
A single sentiment is insignificant
It is to one’s glory to overlook an offense

It sounds like a numbing ring,
All other sounds drowned out
Anger resides in the lap of fools

It feels like an unyielding back itch,
Never to be relieved.
Better a patient person than a warrior,
One with self-control than one who takes a city.

Loneliness

~Liam Bean, Class of 2023

It is as suffocating as waves in the ocean

Dragging you down

Trying to stop you

From gaining progress to the shore

Some are too familiar with this leech

Which sucks away happiness,

Hope,

Love,

Life

From those stuck in its jaw

Some seek it,

Which seems crazy

To the ones who are drowned in it,

Washed in it,

Lost in it

It doesn’t attack anyone, mostly those

Who stand by the edges of the crowd

They are easy targets

To pluck away

Without anyone noticing

Or caring…

Midnight Howl

~Will Manchuso, Class of 2023

It’s nine at night

The dark causes fright

I hear my dog growl

And then comes a howl

I cannot believe the howl came from my dog

My dogs make a growl meaning the howl came from the fog.

I bring my dog in the through the door

He tracks mud all around the floor

I settle in and look through the window

I can hear and feel the wind blow

I look through the fog and see a pair of eyes

Then I look into the skies

And up there is a full glowing moon

It looked like a cartoon

I looked back at the creature

And it no longer made a feature

The wild, a beautiful sight

And that’s when I said goodnight
